Are girdles very uncomfortable?

I'm going to start dressing in vintage 1950's styles all the time and girdles are a must for this type of clothing. I have my heart set on it, but I've heard horror stories about how uncomfortable girdles were. Also, I'm not talking about Spanx, but the vintage kind with satin panels and attached garters for stockings. Are they any types of vintage or retro style girdles that are lighter, to wear in warmer weather?
All women in the 1950's wore them everyday and they got along just fine. How'd THEY do it? Were they just tougher back then?

No, actually a properly fitted girdle is very comfortable. Just make sure it fits and is tight, but not too tight. There are many types and styles of vintage girdles and retro style reproductions, many of them are lighter and perfectly comfortable on a hot Summer Day. If you are truly serious about wearing vintage clothes, good foundation garments are a must. Don't let the naysayers dissuade you from dressing vintage. You'll look and feel great and receive the sweetest compliments on your appearance.
